Workshops 2026
Finding Your Focus
The greatest challenge in a painting is finding your focus and ensuring that you support that idea or image fully as you work. In four 3-hour sessions, you will be given instruction in how to choose a focal point, how to compose around it and how to maintain that focus as you work. This approach is what I follow and what gives me the confidence to paint quickly. I hope by sharing my approach I can help you succeed at what you'd like to do. I will set up a still life for the class session and recommend that you work from that (and will require it for at least one of our paintings!) but you can also bring your own object or resource to work from if you'd like.
You can work in any medium you like! The ideas that we need to think about apply to whatever type of paint you are using. You will have an hour of instruction and two hours to paint and work on painting assignments. There will be ample time for one-on-one and group critique of work.
